Philippine Airlines says it has let go of 300 administrative and management staff through "voluntary separation" and retrenchment, to trIm losses brought about by the novel coronavirus outbreak. The flag carrier in a statement released on Friday stated it has let go of select administrative and management personnel under a business restructuring scheme to "increase revenues and reduce costs." PAL said the streamlining came after ending 2019 at a loss, which has been aggravated by travel bans and flight cancellations to areas affected by the coronavirus. The 300 employees were disengaged from the company effective February 28. PAL said in a statement that all of them will "receive appropriate separation benefits, additional trip pass privileges, and assistance in the form of career counseling and outplacement support." Philippines Airlines Set To Commence Cebu - Los Angeles Direct Flights.

Bamboo Airways Plans To Order 12 Boeing 777X Aircrafts.

Vietnam’s Bamboo Airways expects to buy 12 Boeing 777X jumbo jets in the second quarter in what would be a multi-billion-dollar boost for the US plane-maker after it failed to win a single order for any of its aircraft in January. A deal that size would be valued at almost $5 billion based on market prices. Bamboo Airways, which only started operating a year ago, plans to expand its fleet to 30 aircraft this quarter and to 50 by the end of the year. The company currently operates Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and Airbus A321neos and A320s. Its first European route Hanoi to Prague is scheduled to start on March 29. Boeing’s long-range, widebody 777x is capable of flying more than 400 passengers in a two-class configuration and will be critical for the company as it continues to battle with the grounding of its best-selling 737 Max. Eight Qatar Airways Planes To Airlift Medical Supplies To China

In an unprecedented move, Eight Qatar Airways freighters will be flying to China on Friday free of charge to carry medical supplies in light of the coronavirus outbreak. Mr Akbar Al Baker GCEO of Qatar Airways Group was quoted while speaking at a press conference in Doha. “We are to send eight aircraft on the 21st of this month to China; two of them will go to Beijing, three will go to Shanghai and three aircraft will go to Guangzhou. These eight aircraft will carry medical supplies donated by Chinese people, Chinese embassies, countries, government of Qatar and Qatar Airways to the Chinese people,” said Al Baker. “This is to show our appreciation and support for the Chinese people,” he stressed.He added: “These eight aircraft will be all lined up behind each other and will be departing to China at the same time with an interval of four minutes apart.” Airlines around the world are recording substance losses due to the suspension or reduction in flight frequencies into China i
