Gulf Air, Royal Jordanian Airlines Suspend Flights To Iraqi Cities As Tension Escalates.
Gulf Air and Royal Jordanian Airlines said on Friday that they had suspended flights to Baghdad’s international airport until further notice due to the security situation after a US air strike killed Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad.
Jordan’s state carrier, which has 18 scheduled flights every week to Baghdad, said its flights to the Iraqi cities of Basra, Irbil and Sulaymaniyah were not affected and operating normally.
Bahrain’s Gulf Air already suspended flight to the Iraqi capital including flights to and from Najaf. Other airlines flying into Baghdad or flying over Iraq are watching the situation closely with the view to take appropriate action.
With the order of United State Officials for all American citizens to leave Iraq, there have been an up surge of not just Americans but westerners leaving iraq in mass. It is however interesting to see how this flight suspensions will affect the mass exodus.
