British Airways Pilots Vote To Strike during the busy summer period.
In a potential move that will adversely disrupt flight operations especially in the busy summer flight schedule, British Airways pilots have voted overwhelmingly to go on strike in a row overpay.
Here is what transpired. The British airways Pilots union association BALPA conducted a ballot for its British Airways pilots over the possibility of a strike action. As posted by the Pilot union, 90% of members took part in the ballot. Of that 90% of members, 93% voted in favour of strike action. Which is quite overwhelming .
The brunch of the disagreement is based on the current pay pilots flying for the airline receive. In a Swift response, British airways posted a statement via it's Twitter handle.
"We are very disapointed that the Pilot union BALPA, has chosen to disrupt our customers travel plans- including the summer holidays of thousands of families and their friends with a potential strike action. We have yet to receive strike date from BALPA, so there are no changes to our schedule at this time. We remain open to working with BALPA to reach agreement, as we have been since December. Our proposed pay offer of 11.5 percent over three years is fair and the unite and GMB trade unions, which represent nearly 90 percent of British airways staff have already recommended this offer to their members. We are pursuing every avenue to finding a solution to protect your travel plans and we urge BALPA to return to talks as soon as possible. We are very sorry for the disruptions this potential strike action will cause".
So what next for the Passengers who have booked their flights over the summer? Passengers are urged not to panic yet as no dates have been set for strike action. For any strike action to take place, atleast two weeks notice is required.
Aviation Roundtable blog will keep an eye as things unfolds in the coming days and will keep our readers abreast of any further development.
